RAPE

The consequences of rape for female adolescents are especially tragic in many countries where the prevailing conservative social attitude puts a premium on a young girl’s virginity. The extent of this is measured by the cruel and unusual punishment that is the fate of girls who are raped.

BANGALADESH

A study of consequences of rape for young unmarried girls in rural Bangaladesh, highlighted numerous cases of victim beaten, murdered of driven to suicide because of the “dishonor” that their rape or illegitimate pregnancy brought on the family. The study found that there are 130% more deaths from injury – suicide, homicide, assault and complications from induced abortions – among single than among married teenage girls.

EGYPT

A study of female homicides showed nearly half of the women and girls killed had actually been murdered by relatives after they had been raped.

LATIN AMERICA

In Latin America, 12 countries still have archaic laws on the books that allow the rapist to avoid imprisonment, if he marries the women he raped. Even in case of gang rape, as long as one man offers marriage often accepted and urged on the woman by her family, all the rapists escape punishment.

PAKISTAN

In Pakistan, girls get raped daily. But to prove it as a rape, there has to be 4 people who are well respected in the society, present while the rape happens. Like that will ever happen. Raping should be stopped rather than trying to stop the free will of people.

UNITED STATES

In 2007, church leader warren Jeffs was convicted of being an accomplice to statutory rape of a minor due to arranging a marriage between a 14 years old girl and 19 years old boy. In March 2008, the states of Texas believed that children at the “YEARNING FOR ZION RANCH” were being married to adults and were being abused. The stats of Texas removed all 468 children from the ranch and placed them in to temporary state custody. FLDS denied the charges. The charges were eventually dropped in court as there was no solid evidence in support of this and it was determined that the state entered the ranch illegally.

SAUDI ARABIA

Saudi Arabia has flogged 12 teenage boys in public after charging them with harassing women at a park designated for families them with harassing women at a park designed for families in the conservative Muslim Kingdom, according to Al – Eq tisadiah newspaper.
